Unity Through Action – Youth Volunteering Collective
Youth Volunteering Collective is a community project for young people aged 13 to 18 in Newcastle. It brings young people from different backgrounds together through volunteering, helping them build friendships, confidence, discipline, and a stronger sense of purpose. The project also supports positive life choices by giving young people structured, meaningful activities outside school hours.
01
What the Project Does
Participants will take part in weekly volunteering activities that make a visible difference in the community. These may include neighborhood clean-ups, delivering care packages to older people, gardening projects, helping with charity administration, and supporting food banks. Each session will include planning and reflection, so young people can develop leadership, teamwork, decision-making, empathy, and resilience.
03
How Young People Are Involved
The project will recruit participants through local schools, faith-based youth groups, and community organizations. Young people will not just take part in activities; they will also help shape them through feedback, reflection, and leadership opportunities. By the end of the project, participants will have a chance to celebrate their achievements and share the impact they have made with the wider community.
02
Why It Matters
The project responds to a real need for safe, positive opportunities for young people during the after-school and weekend hours. It helps reduce exposure to negative peer pressure while encouraging responsibility, good habits, and respect for others. At the same time, it strengthens community life by improving local spaces and supporting residents who are feeling the effects of the cost-of-living crisis.
04
Community Impact
By volunteering together across cultural and social differences, young people will build real relationships and challenge prejudice in a practical way. They will gain confidence, civic pride, and useful skills that support future education and employment. The project creates benefits both for participants and for Newcastle and Gateshead communities, showing young people that they can be a positive force for change.
